“Estrada Real Project” aims at motivating the knowledge of the tracks followed by the first travelers in Brazil. They would departure from Rio de Janeiro coast and headed for the gold production areas in the State of Minas Gerais. As part of the project, it is important to organize a cartographic and alphanumeric database about the occurrence of the infrastructure, space for visitation and natural characteristics. This is the goal of the partnership between UFMG and DER/MG.

The work is focused on the development of geo processing applicative with the database collection in the field, representation of this data, assembling of the SIG addressed to tourism management and Virtual Navigation for tourism marketing. The collection of information generated with this work, makes the diagnostic and prognostic analysis possible. This analysis is an important tool for the territorial management.

The users and the tourism managers will receive the first prototype related to one region of 22.500 square kilometers, corresponding to Ouro Preto region. This represents the methodological model that has been tested to be followed in other seven regions in the State of Minas Gerais composing all Estrada Real.
